Can Siberian Huskies Be Off Leash
Personally, we never trust our Siberians off leash unless in a fenced in yard. Our dogs have excellent recall, well minus a couple of them, but we still do not want to risk it. You know the saying "better safe than sorry", use that as a rule of thumb. One of our males Haze will come to you all day long in a huge, fenced area, the first chance he sees an opening though he is a mile down the road. These dogs were made to run, the sad thing is it is just not safe to let your pet run forever and hope he comes back. He or she could easily be hit by a car, mistaken for a coyote, kill the neighbors’ chickens, get into poison on fields or ditches, or someone picks them up and decides to keep them instead of handing over to the proper authorities.
Do All Siberian Huskies Talk / Howl ?
No, not all Siberians talk or howl. Some never do and some never shut up. You can try to initiate the talking and encourage them to talk back to you, just remember once you open that can of worms you can't shut it.
Are Siberian Huskies Easy To Potty Train
Studies have shown puppies raised outside are easier to potty train to live indoors. Simply because the puppies are taught by their mother to go to the bathroom in the grass, they use the yard as soon as they can and learn from the mother. Yes, there still may be accidents but compared to a dog raised inside it is easier to potty train them. We have done it both ways and the pups raised outside are always better at potty training. Potty training a Siberian whether raised inside or out is all about CONSISTENCY, you must have a routine for the puppy, or they will fail. It will take time to train them and there will be accidents along the way, just remember that pup loves you more than anything and will always show you pure love.
Do Siberian Huskies Really Try To Escape
Oh boy, are Siberians escape artists? Yes, yes, they are. Not all are terrible at it, but most are. Trace will eat thru a chain link fence in a day given the chance which is why only welded wire is used for him. Lyric is not near as bad about escaping so she can get by with chain link kennels. Trace has climbed over the top of his kennel and so he needs a roof, now not all Siberians are as determined as he is but be prepared for anything. Some dogs really cannot escape. Wolff (a Zoey puppy) thought he was too big for holes that his friend ( Sin) would dig so he would just stand there. Siberians LOVE to dig as well. In our outside runs hog panels are placed in the dirt to not have any loose dogs. It’s important to know what can potentially happen and prepare for it not to happen.
Are Siberians Aggressive
Siberians are not typically aggressive, there can be many factors to why a Siberian or any dog would show aggression. If you have several unaltered males, you could end up with a fight on your hands. When females are in heat, both males and females can get a little testy. Showing negative attention such as smacking your dog, yelling in its face, cornering it can have very bad effects. How would you feel if it were you in trouble and not the dog? Try to put yourself in their shoes and adjust any punishments accordingly but give love afterwards.
Do Siberians Make Good Family Dogs
Oh yes, Siberians make loving family pets. I don't trust any dogs with babies alone and neither should anyone else, but Siberians are lovers. Yes they could knock children over, hit them in the face with a tail even but they don't want to hurt anyone. Its important to train your Siberian not to jump because they can jump on kids and scare them. We have had loads of families buy a Siberian and they are the perfect fit for a family.
